Preparing Your Fence for Fall

Published by Webmaster

Fall is finally here, and it’s important to properly prepare for all of the changes that are quickly approaching. Fall and winter weather consists of colder temperatures as well as a mixture of rain and snow. Our fence contractor in Evanston knows that it’s important to prepare your wooden fence for the seasons that are to come to make sure that they do not encounter a lot of damage. As you start to think about preparing your wooden fence for the fall, keep these tips in mind.

Clean and Waterproof It

The sweltering summer heat may have taken a toll on your fence. If this is the case, you’ll want to clean it before the temperatures continue to drop. Wipe or scrape away any excess mud. Waterproofing it is also a good idea, but you’ll want to make sure that it is applied correctly to make sure it is protected from the moisture that comes from rain and snow. Please contact our fence contractor in Evanston if you need help on how to clean or waterproof your fence.

Remove Leaves Around Your Fence

As the leaves begin to fall in your yard, take the time to remove them from your fence line. Dead, wet leaves that sit against your fence often allow moisture to accumulate which can lead to more damage like mold, mildew and rotting. This damage could end up making your wooden fence weaker and causing fence posts to crack or split once the weather gets even colder.

Check for Branches and Limbs

If you have trees in your yard, you’ll want to check to make sure that there are no potentially damaging tree limbs that might fall and split your fence. The last thing you want it a branch or a limb falling in the middle of fall only to have it split your fence. Safely remove any dangerous branches by using a trimmer or call a professional if the branches are in a hard-to-reach area.

Making these small adjustments can prove to be extremely beneficial to extending the life of your fence. If you are hoping to get a fence installed this fall, our fence contractors in Evanston are happy to help you!
