Are you interested in personalizing your wood fence in Chicago but are unsure what to do? Don’t worry, there are three basic options for finishing a fence: painting, staining or leaving it natural. Each has their own benefits and drawbacks, but at Top Line Fence, we are here to help decide what is best for you!
Painting
Painting used to be extremely popular for personalizing your fence before there were more color options for staining. Unfortunately, painting your fence requires a lot of maintenance and you will have to repaint it every 1-3 years. Once you do decide to repaint, you will have to scrape off all of the existing paint, prep the surface and then finally repaint it.
Staining
It might initially cost more to stain your fence, but it has much less maintenance than paint. Eventually, the stain will fade and need to be redone, but not as frequently as paint. Unlike paint, stains will not peel or crack over time. If you do decide to change your fence stain color, a power washer will give you a clean slate to work with before re-staining your fence.
Natural
The third option for finishing your wood fence is simply leaving it natural and allowing it to weather over time. This option obviously requires the least amount of work on your side but does leave room for the elements to take a toll on your fence. If your fence is made of quality wood, it should last a while even if it is left to the elements.
Be sure to consider the amount of upkeep, cost and which option best compliments the style of your property. At Top Line Fence, we are here to help you make this decision, contact us today!
