Repairing vs. Replacing Your Fence

Published on March 28th, 2019

When you are trying to decide on whether replacing a worn down fence is worth the effort or not, there are several things to consider. First, you must take into account the material of your fence. Wood fencing can be repaired fairly easily when you are dealing with small holes, cracks, or discoloration. You may even replace a broken board or two before deciding on rebuilding. However, when extreme warping or extensive damage has been done, it is more cost efficient to replace the fence rather than spend money on constant maintenance.

Vinyl fencing is often very durable and lasts quite a long time, however, it can sustain damage which typically surfaces in cracking. When a vinyl fence does sustain a crack, the only option is to replace that section of the fence. If a vinyl fence has cracks in multiple places it may be wiser to invest in a new fence altogether.

Other kinds of fencing, such as chain link and wrought iron can suffer from similar kinds of wear and tear over time. The method for deciding on whether to repair or replace is the same here as it is for any other type of fence. If the damage is minor and can be repaired in a day’s time, a repair will usually suffice. However, if multiple sections have been damaged, the fence is very old, or you simply require a change, such as more privacy or you are looking to increase your property’s value, then replacing your fence may be the better option. Frequent fence repair in Chicago is frustrating, however, whether you choose to repair or rebuild, Top Line Fence is here to help!
